Boris Leokumovich began his dance career at the
young age of 11 in a small Brooklyn dance studio where he
quickly began to compete in Dancesport competitions. At
age 14, he made a guest appearance on morning TV with Robin
Givens. With his former partner, Boris performed at many
venues including a gig as back-up dancer at a KTU concert.
In 2002, Boris placed in the top 24 (out of 400 entries)
at the most prestigious and largest dancesport competition
in the world, the British Open in Blackpool, England. That
same year, Boris placed third in the Crystal Palace Open
and sixth in the Imperial Open, both held in London, England.
In 2004, Boris appeared in the Off-Broadway show, “Never
Stop Dreaming,” as a principal dancer. Shortly thereafter,
Boris decided to take a hiatus from his competitive career
and moved to San Francisco, CA. With his busy competitive
schedule temporarily put aside, Boris concentrated on his
education and focused on other styles of dance such as Modern
and Hip-Hop. It didn’t take long for Boris to realize
that his true passion lay in Competitive Ballroom dance.
A year later, Boris moved back to New York to pick up where
he left off, and once again pursue his dance career. He
has made numerous appearances on the hit show “Dancing
With the Stars,” where he met his current dance partner
and fiancée. He has performed at countless events
for entrepreneur Steve Wynn, such as the opening of his
new hotel in Macau, China.
Boris has danced, trained, and taught with Victor Kanevsky
at Kaiser Dance Academy in Brooklyn, NY; Maksim Chmerkovskiy
at Dance With Me Corp. Studios in New Jersey, Metronome
Dance Studio in San Francisco, CA; and Dance Central in
Staten Island, NY.
Boris, who is passionate about teaching, is highly trained
in and teaches many styles of dance including International
Latin, Salsa/Mambo, Social American; and is knowledgeable
in Standard and Smooth styles. Stepping Out is thrilled
to welcome Boris to its pantheon of dedicated artists and
dance professionals.
