Workshop 1:  Mastering Salsa Timing
Feb. 20th 12:30 - 2:00 pm
Level: All Levels

Description: Learn the most effective and efficient way to find the beat and stay with it! Whether you're an “on 1” or “on 2” dancer. This workshop will introduce the three Core Principles of 4/4 Timing, Tempo and Phrasing. We will be working with ear training exercises to properly establish tempo and find the 8-beat phrase through rhythmic pattern recognition. Students will also learn how the basic steps align to the 8-beat structure. Through rhythmic drills involving the rhythm section, you will learn where the 8-beat phrase begins. This workshop will dramatically improve your understanding of Salsa rhythms and how they relate to your dancing. You will learn what to listen for in the music to easily identify the musical count accurately, so you will always be on time! Other topics discussed will include “finding the 2 beat,” knowing the difference between “on 1” and “on 2” dancing. Listening and Execution Exercises will help you apply what you've learned!

Workshop 2:  Adding Style and Attitude in your Partnering

Level: Must be at least Advanced Beginner (Pre-Intermediate) through Advanced

Description: For Leaders and Followers - Liberate yourself from the basic step and learn to embellish your dance by connecting more with the music and your partner. This workshop will provide you with a template for exploring your own creativity through your dance. We will work on body movements and isolations, and then apply them in partnering. Take your Salsa dancing to the next level with your own unique feeling and expression.
