DIRECTOR NELSON FLORES:
Instructor, Performer and Choreographer
Nelson has been working professionally in the world of Latin dance for over 15 years. He is one of the most sought after Salsa dancers today; and is one of the pioneers of the NY style Salsa On2. In 1998, he co-founded a dance company called Descarga Latina. As an internationally acclaimed dance troupe that continues to be on the cutting edge in the world of Latin dance, he and the Company have performed and taught all over the world, and have participated in every major Salsa Festival. Nelson has performed and choreographed for many renowned Latin artists, such as the late Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Oscar De Leon, Ruben Blades, Tito Nieves, Jerry Rivera, Fania All-Stars, Marc Anthony, La India and many more. He co-created an Off-Broadway show called “Latin Madness,” where he participated as a performer, director, choreographer, producer, and project manager. Additionally, Nelson has performed at every major venue in NY (Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, Waldorf Astoria, Radio City Music Hall, Shea Stadium and Yankee Stadium). Having served 3 times as an official Judge for the World Salsa Competition which was sponsored by sports network giant ESPN, he also served 4 times at the prestigious Puerto Rico Salsa Open Championship. Nelson was the Event planner and Artistic director for the NYNJ Salsa Festival for 3 years (2005-7).
As Nelson's expertise is in such high demand, he has created Instructional DVDs from Beginner to Advanced level. Among Nelson’s credits are TV Commercials for Univision; TV appearances including Good Day NY, Good Morning America, Today Show, Sabado Gigante, Sabado al mierdo dia and Diamante.
INSTRUCTOR JENNIFER ROSADO
Jennifer Rosado has been dancing New York Salsa “on 2” since 2001. She began her dance career teaching and performing with “Karisma Dance Company” just over 10 years ago. Included among Jennifer’s performance and choreographic credits are working with Latin Grammy winners Victor Manuelle, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Jose Alberto "El Canario," and Marc Anthony. She has performed and taught workshops all over the U.S and abroad, including Italy, Argentina, Japan ,Canada, and the Caribbean. Jennifer’s recognized and acclaimed for her graceful, yet sexy styling and body movement.
Currently, she is dancing and traveling with “Proyecto Descarga,” a Latin Jazz company under the
direction of Sekou Mcmiller.
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR NICHOLAS MESSINA
Instructor, Choreographer
Born and raised in New York, Nicholas Messina has a very diverse range of knowledge and insight into many different styles of dance including the Latin dances, American Rhythm and Smooth Ballroom dancing. However, New York’s style of Salsa on “2” and New York style Cha Cha have become two of Nicholas’ passions. Having learned with many of New York’s top Salsa pioneers, he offers unique insight into the technique and form of the fun, popular style of dance known as “Salsa on 2” or “Mambo.” It is his understanding of Ballroom technique fused with the exhilarating, sexy, club style of New York’s Salsa/Mambo scene that makes learning with Nicholas such an uncommonly, wonderful experience. His love for Salsa and Cha Cha, both music and dance, are very much present in his high energy and informative classes. In addition to teaching group classes, Nicholas is available for private lessons.
